Applications Now Open for Family Friendship Program Participants

Author: Heather Christensen

For more than 50 years, International Student and Scholar Affairs (ISSA) at the University of Notre Dame has paired international students with members of the local community, allowing participants to learn more about different cultures, traditions, and languages. Today, the Family Friendship Program continues to foster friendships and cultural understanding between students from around the world and community members who represent a wide range of ages, professions, religions, ethnic backgrounds, and family compositions.

Notre Dame International is seeking more than 50 families and individuals in the community to participate in this program for the current academic year. Participants are encouraged to meet with their student at least once per month to take advantage of the many activities offered on campus as well as throughout the community. Birthdays, holidays, sporting and cultural events, or a simple family dinner—all these, and more—are activities that can be enjoyed together.

Families, individuals, students, and scholars are encouraged to apply. This is not a homestay program, and there is no cost to participate. On September 21, 2017, participants and their students will kick off the program with a dinner on the Notre Dame campus.

Applications for the 2017-2018 Family Friendship Program are now open and due by Tuesday, September 5.
