The Lucy Family Institute for Data and Society invites proposals from Notre Dame faculty and staff to promote interdisciplinary research and initiatives at the intersection of data and society.
The announcement includes four different Tracks and welcomes proposals to organize convening and collaborative event series, request computational infrastructure and Lucy Family Institute core services, and facilitate South Bend/Elkhart industry & community collaborations.
Applicants are also encouraged to apply to establish a Lucy Research Accelerator, which awards funds for investigators to support a postdoctoral research fellow or two graduate students for up to two years. Under the co-mentorship of two investigators, fellows/students will receive interdisciplinary training and will generate preliminary research towards addressing a wicked problem.
The Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society was founded in December 2019 with a generous gift from alumnus Robert Lumpkins and his wife, Sara. The Institute aims to facilitate transformative, interdisciplinary research for societal impact that is domain-informed and driven by data science methodology and applications, with the goal of using data and innovation as a force for good in the world.
Through these proposals, the Lucy Family Institute hopes to foster research that crosses disciplinary boundaries. “We hope to facilitate sustained efforts towards utilizing data science to address some of the biggest problems in society,” says Nitesh Chawla, Director of the Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society.
