The Notre Dame Turbomachinery Laboratory (NDTL), a 25,000 square foot facility located in South Bend’s Ignition Park, is a world-class research and testing facility for turbomachinery research. Researchers in the NDTL study and test components for gas turbine engines, which are used by commercial and military aircraft, power plants, and the oil and gas industry.
Speaking about the development and ongoing growth of the NDTL, Scott C. Morris, Research Director and Associate Professor of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, said, “The University of Notre Dame – and the State of Indiana – have long recognized the importance and value of the aerospace industry to the United States’ economy. Here at ND Turbo, we are committed to keeping the United States competitive in this area by advancing the gas turbine engine industry through the fundamental and applied research we undertake, the undergraduate and graduate students we educate, and the collaborative partnerships with our City and State.
