Notre Dame Research has provided eight researchers or research groups from three Colleges and Schools with awards from the Equipment Restoration and Renewal (ERR) grant program for 2017. The ERR grant program was created to assist in the restoration, replacement, and renewal of the facilities needed for faculty research, scholarship, and creative endeavor.
In describing the awards, Richard E. Billo, Associate Vice President for Research, said, “The Equipment Restoration and Renewal grant program was developed to help Notre Dame researchers gain access to the resources and equipment they need to be successful. By doing so, we can continue to foster an environment that encourages research, scholarship, and creative endeavor across all seven Colleges and Schools at the University.”
The 2017 grant awardees are:
- Satish Adusumilli, director and attending veterinarian, for a steam sterilizer at the Freimann Life Science Center.
- Patricia L. Clark, Rev. John Cardinal O’Hara C.S.C. Professor of Biochemistry, to replace the fast protein liquid chromatography systems for the new biophysics instrumentation core.
- Michael Elwell, assistant professional specialist of industrial design, for digital visualization and fabrication upgrades.
- Holly Goodson, professor of chemistry and biochemistry, preparative centrifuge equipment, instrumentation for a biophysics core facility.
- Allen Oliver, research professor of chemistry and biochemistry and facility manager of the Molecular Structure Facility, for the renewal of an X-ray diffractometer monochromator and associated stereomicroscope.
- Alan Seabaugh, Frank M. Freimann Chair Professor of Electrical Engineering, to upgrade and enhance a spectroscopic photocurrent measurement system.
- David Severson, professor of Biological Sciences, for renewal of the Galvin Life Sciences third floor insectaries.
- Matthew Webber, assistant professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, for the replacement and expansion of campus soft materials characterization capabilities.
