We are pleased to announce the launch of the new minor in Health, Humanities, and Society, starting Fall 2021, which addresses questions of health, medicine, and disability from the perspectives of the arts, humanities, and social sciences. The minor aims to provide students the intellectual tools and opportunities to explore their interests in health by analyzing medicine as not only a technical, but also as a social, political, economic, and cultural practice shaped and informed by broader historical factors.
Classes in the Fall include: The American Healthcare System in Perspective; Contemporary Concerns in Medicine; Health, Medicine, and Society; A Visual History of Medicine; Sport and Society; Anthropology of Migration; Theorizing Disability; and many more.
This is an excellent opportunity for students who want to add a social and humanistic component to their studies of pre-health and for those who are interested in understanding health from a variety of perspectives. An emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion is a core part of the curriculum.
