The Idea Center at the University of Notre Dame announced today the opening of the Idea Center Startup Studio at Ethos, a startup studio located in the Ethos Innovation Center in Elkhart, IN. The studio is designed to help nurture early-stage startups and budding entrepreneurs in the Elkhart area.
The Idea Center Startup Studio at Ethos is designed not only to provide startups with space, but to connect them to the Idea Center’s services and expertise in the areas of idea development, commercialization, business formation and overall entrepreneurial efforts. Since its creation in 2017, the Idea Center has launched 118 startup companies.
The Idea Center Startup Studio at Ethos occupies the northern third of the first floor of the Ethos Innovation Center and features four offices available for rent as well as common space designed to foster collaborative interactions. The Ethos Innovation Center is a non-profit organization focused on positively engaging K-12 students with science and technology through hands-on programs. The building in which it resides is the former administration headquarters of Bayer and is over 90,000-square feet.
“One of the Idea Center’s long-term goals is to help the South Bend-Elkhart community transform into a dynamic innovation hub in the midwest,” said James Thompson, Associate Vice President for Innovation at Notre Dame. “For such a transformation to take place, it will need to involve far more than Notre Dame and South Bend. If we can help accelerate the already burgeoning entrepreneurial scene in Elkhart, like we’ve been doing at Notre Dame and in South Bend for four years, we will be one step closer to achieving this vision.”
