Research begins with a question. But in putting business under the microscope, Business on the Front Lines at Notre Dame’€™s Mendoza College of Business is proving that the answer isn’€™t always discovered in a lab.

Taught by associate professor of management Viva Bartkus, and selected by Forbes.com as one of the “Ten Most Innovative Business School Classes,” Business on the Front Lines asks, how can business reboot economies ravaged by war? To uncover the answer, MBA students engage in classroom study of developmental economies and peace-through-commerce efforts, as well as travel to countries such as Bosnia, Lebanon, Kenya, or Uganda to witness the impact of business in pulling populations out of poverty and stabilizing society following a war or violent conflict.
