Bruce Huber, associate professor of law, has been appointed the Robert and Marion Short Scholar, a three-year rotating appointment for pre-tenure faculty members.
The gift will help facilitate Huber’s research activities through 2019.
“This is a real honor and I’m deeply grateful to the Short family,” Huber said. “It will help me continue my current work on natural resource management issues, as well as expand my research into new areas.”
Huber’s research focuses on the areas of environmental law, natural resources law, property law, and energy law. His particular areas of expertise include energy regulation, public land and resource management, and the interaction between law and politics. His scholarship in these fields has been published in such journals as the California Law Review, the Harvard Environmental Law Review, and The Georgetown Law Journal.
Huber earned his undergraduate degree at Stanford University and received his J.D. and a Ph.D. in political science at the University of California, Berkeley. He joined the Law School faculty in 2011.

Robert and Marion Short are the parents of Brian Short ’75 J.D. Robert Short, a successful lawyer, entrepreneur, and professional sports team owner, was a long-time supporter of the Law School. He served as a member of the Notre Dame Law School Advisory Council from 1974 until his death in 1982. The Robert and Marion Short fund also endows the chair currently held by Professor Mary Ellen O’Connell.
