More than 140 undergraduate students from around the world have been busy conducting research with faculty and participating in professional development, networking, and social events, all with a common goal to have a well-balanced and productive summer research experience.
These students represent a select group of participants from NSF-funded REUs, fellowships, and department programs, administered by the Center for Nano Science and Technology (NDnano), Center for Research Computing (CRC), Center for Sustainable Energy (ND Energy), Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Notre Dame International, the Graduate School, and Wireless Institute.
As many of these programs come to a close, students will share their research projects during the annual Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium. Topics will range from studies on racism and ADHD to exploring rare Earth elements, detecting fentanyl in water, improving the longevity of lithium metal batteries, improving systems for wireless environments, and a myriad of other important scientific discoveries. In all, there will be 77 projects presented during the symposium, representing three colleges, one division, and 13 different departments: College of Arts and Letters, Departments of Anthropology, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, and Theology; College of Engineering, Departments of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences, Computer Science and Engineering, and Electrical Engineering; College of Science, Biological Sciences and Chemistry and Biochemistry; and Notre Dame Research, Center for Research Computing.
The symposium will be held Wed., July 24, from 9:30 to 11:45 a.m. in the Jordan Hall of Science Galleria, located on the northeast side of campus. Two poster sessions will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. and from 10:45-11:45 a.m. This event is open to the general public, and everyone is encouraged to attend and show their support for undergraduate research. Students from the summer research program at St. Mary’s College will also participate in the symposium.
