“The liberal arts education is one of the best things Notre Dame offers,” said Kaitlin Sullivan ’10, now a product policy manager at Facebook.
Sullivan majored in political science and minored in philosophy, politics and economics. After graduating, she completed two years of service with Jesuit Volunteer Corps working in a rape crisis center.
While working on a master’s degree in public policy at George Washington University, Sullivan interned at Facebook and started a small project addressing gender-based hate speech on the social media platform, ultimately leading to her current job.
“Post-graduate service is a great way to get really substantial work experience right off the bat,” she said. “And I think, in particular, service can give you the opportunity to learn about an area or an issue that other people may not know a lot about.”
Sullivan values the skills she gained during her undergraduate education in the College of Arts and Letters.
“I know how to tackle a big problem, I know how to break it down piece by piece.” said Sullivan. “It’s also about learning how to think about life and what you should do with your life, which I think is a big scary question that faces a lot of 22-year-olds. You’re more equipped to handle that with a liberal arts education.”
