Professor David Lloyd of the University of California, RIversidewill speak on “The Republic at the End of the World, ” a lecture in memory of Seamus Deane (1940-2021), who was the Donald and Marilyn Keough Professor of Irish Studies at the University of Notre Dame. He will also launch Deane’s Small World: Ireland, 1798-2018 (Cambridge University Press).

David Lloyd, Distinguished Professor of English at the University of California, Riverside, is a poet, playwright and critic, working primarily on Irish culture and on postcolonial, settler-colonial, cultural and aesthetic theory. His most recent critical books include Beckett’s Thing: Painting and Theatre (2016) and Under Representation: The Racial Regime of Aesthetics (2019), and Counterpoetics of Modernity: On Irish Poetry and Modernism (2022). Poetry collections include Arc & Sill: Poems 1979-2009 (2012) and The Harm Fields (forthcoming 2022) and his play, The Press/Le Placard, is available in a bilingual edition from Presses Universitaires du Midi, 2018.
