In Memoriam of Dr. Gordon Hug

Hug Gordon

We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of emeritus faculty member Gordon L. Hug of the Radiation Laboratory on January 12.

Dr. Hug was both a theoretician and experimentalist who made many contributions in the fields of Photochemistry and Radiation Chemistry, culminating in authorship of the classic 2nd edition of Murov’s “Handbook of Photochemistry” (Dekker) and several very highly cited compilations of transient optical spectral properties from both photolysis and radiolysis, published by NIST.

Gordon was also instrumental in first building and later maintaining our significant European bridges in these fields, in Photochemistry with Prof. Bronislaw Marciniak (Poznan) and in Radiation Chemistry with Prof. Krzysztof Bobrowski (Warsaw) among others. We still benefit from these connections which persist to this day.

His gentle presence will be dearly missed.
