In June, NDnano and ND Energy jointly hosted a lunchtime seminar for the faculty affiliated with each of the centers. During the meeting, Gina Svarovsky, faculty director of Notre Dame's Center for Broader Impacts (CBI), and Alisa Zornig Gura, CBI associate director, provided an introduction to Notre Dame's new Center for Broader Impacts.

The Center for Broader Impacts was established at Notre Dame in 2022 to expand the public reach and societal benefits of research conducted at Notre Dame. One of the initial goals of CBI is to develop a suite of tools and programs that will provide several pathways for ND researchers to engage in broader impacts work.

During the June seminar, Svarovsky and Gura gave an overview of CBI's mission. They also outlined ways that faculty can engage not only with CBI but also with a wide range of broader impacts partners across campus and within the local community, and shared key considerations related to broader impacts both pre- and post-award. They concluded by discussing potential future directions and trends for broader impacts. An engaging discussion followed the presentation.

Beginning in the Fall 2023 semester, NDnano will resume its monthly networking meetings to provide a forum for faculty and staff to discuss recent research, probe new ideas, and connect with new collaborators. Notre Dame faculty and staff are invited to attend and join in the discussion to learn and advance research at Notre Dame. Visit the NDnano events page to learn about future networking sessions.
