The Nanovic Institute is proud to announce that its annual Year in Review for the 2022-23 academic year is now available. This year’s publication focuses on the people behind the institute’s work. To give this theme a visual expression, the institute partnered with illustrator David Despau to produce striking portraits of the individuals featured prominently in this issue to serve as both the cover image and distinctive section markers.
Clemens Sedmak, director of the Nanovic Institute and professor of social ethics at the Keough School of Global Affairs, describes the Year in Review as “a vibrant portrait of an academic year characterized by student engagement, research projects, faculty fellow achievements, distinguished visitors, insightful conferences, and continued solidarity with Ukraine.”
Arranged into four sections based on the pillars of its 2021-26 Strategic Plan, this publication showcases how the institute and its partners engaged with this strategy intentionally and creatively throughout the year. A few of the many topics covered include:
- faculty achievements, awards, and promotions;
- the experiences of students encountering Europe, conducting compelling research, and contributing to the ongoing dialogue of European studies;
- completed and in-progress research endeavors, including multiple collaborative projects with Ukrainian Catholic University and the Catholic Universities Partnership; and
- many other articles, events, and updates from the Nanovic Institute.
