The Diocese of Québec and the Holy See, 17th-21st Centuries

(part of a series)

Location: Notre Dame Rome

To commemorate the 350th anniversary of the foundation of the diocese of Québec in 1674, Professors Philippe Roy-Lysencourt and Matteo Sanfilippo, with the support of several partners, have organized an international symposium, in Rome, titled “The Diocese of Québec and the Holy See, 17th-21st Centuries”. This event, which takes place on May 16-17, 2024, brings together several historians, some of whom have already published major works on the subject, an archivist, and current protagonists to discuss several aspects of the relations between the Holy See and a diocese that continued to expand until the late 18th century and then narrowed its territory in conjunction with the increase of other ecclesiastical districts later established in North America.
