Biography

Professor Jason C. Hicks is the Associate Vice President for Research at the University of Notre Dame. In this role, he serves as the University’s Research Integrity Officer and oversees internal academic competitions. He previously served as Associate Dean for Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs in the College of Engineering and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.

Hicks’ research expertise is in experimental heterogeneous catalysis, focusing on the precise synthesis of catalytic materials and plasma-driven catalytic processes. He has held leadership roles and served as principal investigator on major multi-investigator research programs supported by the National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, and Department of Energy. Before joining Notre Dame, he was a Lead Research Engineer at Chevron Energy Technology Company.

Hicks earned undergraduate degrees in chemistry and chemical engineering from Kentucky Wesleyan College and Vanderbilt University, respectively, and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. His research, teaching, and mentoring have been recognized with the NSF CAREER Award, the 2024 AIChE Mid-Career Researchers in Catalysis and Reaction Engineering Award, and several University of Notre Dame teaching and mentoring awards.
