Controlled Substances

Controlled substances are drugs or other substances whose possession and use are regulated under Title 21 of the United States Controlled Substances Act (CSA). The use of controlled substances in research requires compliance with federal and state regulation. The University of Notre Dame’s Controlled Substance Program is designed to assist research personnel with compliance.

Researchers seeking to work with controlled substances must obtain individual researcher registrations through the Indiana Board of Pharmacy (IBOP) and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) before purchasing or possessing any controlled substances.

Forms

Once registration is obtained by the researcher, regulations require maintenance of certain documentation regarding substance purchase, use, and disposal. Forms below should be used and securely maintained by researchers.
